I am not angry at the world and everything in it and I do not believe that everything is shit, I'm not that negative. I just find that there is an overwhelmingly large amount of bullshit being spewed into society that isn't needed. Lately music is so droll and unoriginal, new autotuned popstars springing up all over the place, infecting the youth of today with their monotonous garbage. I saw a quote recently that said "Give us back Cobain and you can take bieber" I wish that were possible, I can't stand little tween stars like Bieber, he sounds like a girl and sings lyrics obviously written for him because he has no idea what the context of them means. Lyrics like
"Are we an item? Girl quit playing We're just friends What are you saying? Said there's another, and look right in my eyes My first love broke my heart for the first time And I was like..." Really? this 13 (something, I dont know his age and havent researched him) year old is talking like that? Granted I was sexually active at that time but most kids this age don't know shit about relationships or love or a broken heart.
Movies, a huge part of my life being that I have little to no social life due to me having little to no money, are turning out piece of crap after crap. The so-called "summer blockbusters" nearly all failed to impress, the movies I did like from this year were; Inception, Iron Man 2, Get him to the Greek, Knight and Day, Daybreakers and Date Night. The rest were complete shit in my opinion, there are some I haven't seen but thats merely due to their unavailability for torrent download of the DVD copies. There was a straight to DVD sequel to 30 Days of Night, entitled 30 Days of Night: Dark Days, which most straight to disc movies suck right? This was no different. it could have been directed and produced by the syfy channel for crap sake. The vampires weren't scary and evil like they were in the first one, which I didn't like all that much anyway but it was better than the twilight bullshit saga. Frankly Im over vampires and I hope not to see any movies based on them for a while, at least not until the cast of twilight has been strung up by their heels and drained of blood like cattle as they are worth no more than that. I would like to see the horror franchise revamped, I haven't seen a single "scary" movie in years, maybe its because I've lived it, maybe because most attempts at true horror turn out to be stupid stereotypes, Im not sure. But I do know that Hollywood has been releasing consistently shitty movies in this genre that aren't scary/believable. I saw an indie movie recently called Trade, now that had a good premise and back story in reality which are key, but it was more suspense than scary to me. Im not sure really if anything can be truly scary to me, my nightmares are true horror too bad I can't put them into film haha. I've been watching a lot of the popular youtubers lately and I think that if a few of them were to get into professional film making there might be a chance that some new original content could appear on the silver screen in coming years. However there is the problem that once they get into the business they will need to seek funding for their projects from the major producing firms; Paramount, Lions Gate etc and many times in order for these firms to support your film you must be either A. Successful already or B. Have an amazing idea but yet it is not too risky for them to put millions of dollars behind. Thats a daunting decision to make, sacrifice your creative vision in order to make more money for your sponsor. This is why I like indie films so much, they are able to get funding from independent sources and allowed to maintain their original idea, its how films like Memento get made, Christopher Nolan was relatively unknown before this and its lead him to create movies such as the Batman movies and my new favorite, Inception. But the sad thing is that this does not happen often, in fact hardly ever, why else would we have the same leading directors making all the movies? Why else would anyone take a chance on another M. Knight Shamalan movie? Because its easier to take a risk on a bad director that will produce a mediocre movie rather than a new and unproven director that may fail.
Back to music, the mainstream music is SO bad! I do not listen to the radio because I can't stand it. In Get him to the Greek they make a satirical reference to what was popular being a song called "fuck up your shit" which the lyrics were basically just that. In the movie when the sample was played everyone in the room started dancing in their seats like it was so great and Jonah Hill's character just sat there like "are you fucking kidding me?" and that's how I feel about today's popular music. It's shit, complete shit. I listen to many many genres of music, I literally have over 90,000 songs in my hard drives collectively and most of it is not mainstream groups, its classic rock, 90's grunge, 80's hair metal, and indie and death metal etc. I watched a video chat with one of my favorite artists Otep Shamaya of the band Otep the other day, and she said something similar to the effect of what this blog has been, there is no meaning in most of the new music of today, its pointless dribble and drowned out instruments because the music industry records tracks with the transfer to mp3 in mind which means they take the bass and 'hit' out of guitars and they sound like shit. Otep does not do this, their guitar riffs still sound hard, gritty and in your face and I love that, and her lyrics and fucking amazing, meaningful, and deep. I miss the days of Rage against the Machine, yes politically charged bands are not always popular because..well people are not active that are in this culture. I for one wish that we, "the undocumented thinkers" of this generation would actually get involved and create the change we want to see so badly in society. The only way this will happen is if we unite, and collectively become involved. The republicans control so much of government because they indoctrinate their children from a young age with their religion and their politics. They shape them into what they need for the future, this is how they infiltrated the political system and took control, and we can do the same. This misfits and so called degenerates of todays society, the tattooed and pierced and death metal listeners who can think far deeper and wider than what a book and a god could ever create.
Believing in organized religion to me is like believing in things like Santa Claus or the easter bunny, its fantastical and stupid. If you believe in god or Vishnu or Buddha or Muhammad good for you, thats great, I however do not, I am an atheist, I was brought up Christian but it never really clicked in my mind, I wasn't born with the believer gene (they believe theres a gay gene so there must be a gene that makes you susceptible to religion too). I remember knowing so many verses of the bible, and really believing that there was a god in a heaven and that if I did what the bible said that I would go to heaven and so on. As I grew older, I questioned the religious leaders in my church, they did not have answers for my questions, the bible didn't have answers. From their I began to research other religions, find out what their faiths were and why they believed they were right. After a short time it became clear to me that the major religious sects in the world believe many similar things, (which I will save you the bore of reading here) their stories are very similar and their religious holy books stories are similar. From that I gathered that religion is not actually a true belief in a god or holy super power, it is a system of control for the masses. Religion teaches people morals and beliefs to live a good life, and in all religions punishment for not following these principals is indubitably damnation to hell, aka do what we say or you are condemned. This type of thinking would do well for ancient societies that needed to keep people in line based on belief alone. But in our time, it seems to me that people should be breaking free of this type of thinking and think for themselves. You don't need a holy book and a building to stand in and sing songs that have no meaning to you and listen to a no doubt money corrupted religious official spew doctrine at you in order to be a good person. People tend to think that atheists have no morals, don't believe in anything and are therefore inherently evil, this is far from the truth. Atheists believe in many things, we simply do not acknowledge or believe in ANY god or deity. Atheism is not a religion, it is simply the disbelief of ALL gods. Some also tend to think that since you are an atheist you see yourself as god, this is the largest and most fanatical of lies told by organized religion. We do not believe in any god, not the Christian god, the Hindu god, the Jewish god etc they don't exist they are a fabrication of man to explain life, death and everything in between. What is funny to me is that quite often religious believers don't even really know what they believe, or even better that they do no truly believe what has been taught to them but fear that if they are wrong for questioning their faith that they will be damned to hell. To these people I say, try it for one week, do not pray,, do not go to church, do not mention god in any sentence and live as you do normally see if you feel any different, you wont I promise you. But the fact is that religion is instilled from a young age and many do not even question their faith even if they do not fully understand why they believe what they do. I could debate religion for days, weeks, months, years, each person I have had this conversation with offers a different point of view which I always find interesting to hear. I used to belong to a philosophy club in high school and we debated Christianity alone for months, pros, cons, reasoning etc it is literally an endless debate because new opinions and viewpoints can constantly be presented for or against in any religion. Personally I believe if all religion were eradicated from the planet we would all be better off, no more zelots killing thousands in the name of their god, no more crazy people teaching kids backwards philosophies, no more killing because they believe in a different god than you do. People need to wake up and realize they all believe the same thing they just call god by a different name, and for those who have thought outside the box and realized the truth, you wont have to deal with the religious right calling you a devil anymore. I would offer further insight and debate but until I get responses to this blog their is no reason to, Cheers.
